I have an nVidia GeForce FX Go5700 Graphics Card (128MB) 1GB Ram 1.8Ghz Pentium
I ran the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor and it said I could use the Aero glass UI with my computer setup.
I only have a rating of 2; it says it cannot detect "gaming graphics", but it gives that section a rating of 3.4. All ratings are in the 3 range with the exception of the graphics card, which got a 2.0 rating (I downloaded the most recent driver using the Windows Update feature.)
Am I hopeless to get the glass UI? What's up here? Is there a way for Windows to recognize my gaming graphics?
Thanks VERY MUCH.

Aero Glass; Can I get it to work?

It requires a WDDM driver. It should have been "in the box" when you installed Vista.

Well, after running the Vista Upgrade Utility, MSFT did inform that I would have to update the graphics driver after installation. I did that through Windows Update. That doesn't seem to work.
Note to other nVidia "Go" users: I noticed that on the nVidia site my graphics card was "Vista Ready" however it doesn't include the driver in the Vista install package (nor any "Go" drivers, I believe). I found this out after trying to manually install the driver. It's not there, and thus the installation couldn't continue because nVidia didn't see a compatible graphics card. I did try to install the device driver that corresponded to the non-Go version of the graphics card...that didn't work...crashed windows. Did a system restore and am at the same point I was. I figure once a driver is written from nVidia the problem wiill be resolved. Sound logical?

The overall rating is simply the lowest of any of the ratings. If everything else is a four and one item is a two you get a two. This is the "weakest link" logic. The rating system is beta also and much work lies ahead. Don't worry about it.
My system only got a one, but I think it factored in the user.

In your display settings to the right of the resolution make sure things are set for 32 rather than 16. When set for 16 Aero glass may not work.
It's at 32, Boomer. I wish it was that easy. :)

Yeah, I realized this a couple days ago. It's frustrating. nVidia tends to give no support to mobile GPUs...that updates are done through your hardware provider (in this case, Toshiba). I wonder if this card will ever get updated for Vista? I would think so. I do want glass! ;)

Roy... I have a Geforce 6200 128 TC PCIe, if that's the one you bought you ought to know that I'm having the same problem as the poster. Nvidia drivers don't work as expected. I'm using now vista drivers, but still the performance ratings gives 2 because my card only has 16Mb not the 128mb. In fact the card only has 16Mb and the rest is taken from your ram (via Turbo Cache technology). Now I'm thinking on buying a Geforce 6600 with 256Mb onboard memory.
Until there's a fix from nvidia, I have to use vista drivers and at least see the aero glass effects...
Willy.

No, it isn't. I wrote "GeForce 6200 128 MB" and not TC.
Turbo Cache is - like ATI's HyperMemory - a fascinating invention of the marketing people (turbo and hyper sounding much better than shared;-) but a horror for the techs!
Obviously, Vista needs real VRAM:-)
I have Aero glass with this card using the ATI driver provided by Vista.
Aero glass even works with a GeForce FX 5200 128 MB, especially with the 128bit version produced by Albatron; that card is some bucks cheaper than the GF 6200 128 MB.

I have the same Problem... What about the latest drivers that where released in June?...
Disabled:
Nothing works. I tried to install the drivers (88.61) but the control panel can't find the card.
I'm using right now the driver installed by Vista, and Aero Glass works at a 1154 x 864 res. But Still I don't know if the card is using all the memory it needs from the system (128MB), Windows Vista reports only 16MB of enabled memory and that's why I don't think it is working as it should (as in XP).
What does Vista reports from your card?

Yes. Aero glass works fine using vista drivers, but performance is not as it should be because the card doesn't have Turbo Cache enabled, that's why only 16 Mb are reported by vista.
Nvidia driver (88.61) doesn't recognize the card as available, so I can't use them.

I probably have the same computer as you (Toshiba Qosmio) and HAD the same problem. I called Toshiba tech-support just to inquire if I was able to replace my Go5700 video card because Nvidia doesn't make a compatible adapter driver for Vista. So they ask me to return the machine so they can upgrade it free under warranty. They overnighted me an overnight box and exactly 1 week later I received my computer back with an upgraded system board and the GeForce 6600 GPU - all for free!!! EVERYTHING (including Aero) works GREAT now! I know you probably don't want to ship your computer off, but Toshiba made it worthwhile! Kevin P.S. of course you will have to reload Vista because Toshiba will reimage your hard-drive...

Your display adapter is on the list of 'cards' supporting Vista,
http://www.nvidia.com/page/technology_vista_home.html
but not on the list of adapters supported by the Nvidia drivers for Vista Beta 2,
http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_31325.html
(I have the same situation with my Quadro NVS 280 AGP... I bought a GeForce 6200 128 MB.)
I was not very impressed with Toshiba up until now, this scored them some major brownie points! I know you probably don't want to ship your computer off, but Toshiba made it worthwhile! Kevin P.S. of course you will have to reload Vista because Toshiba will reimage your hard-drive...

Thanks VERY MUCH.
sorry for the multiple posts - the system kept telling me there was an error...
